Satire: Xi charms Macron

This week cartoonist Niklas ”@KluddNiklas” Eriksson makes a brief comeback here at Kinamedia with a new masterpiece. Always with his finger on the pulse of current events, he simply couldn’t refrain from depicting French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to China earlier this month.

As reported by Kinamedia in the article ”Macron encourages Europe to abandon Taiwan”, Macron was treated like an emperor and a rock star during his visit, inspecting the honour guard by the Tiananmen Square in Beijing and being idolised by hundreds of university students in Guangzhou.

Add to that a lavish state dinner and an intimate tea drinking session with Xi Jinping himself, and Macron was feeling special enough to say whatever his hosts might wanted to hear.

Following wishes for a multipolar world order and less dependency on the US dollar, the largest number of eyebrows were most likely raised when the French President suggested that it was not in Europe’s interest to get involved in a confrontation between Washington and Beijing over Taiwan.

What good is this beacon of democracy that manufactures some 90 percent of the world’s most advanced semiconductors and are located in the most important sea lanes for global trade anyway, when you got Xi making you feel important by showing you the beauty of communist China?

Hence the blue eyes of Macron.

The cartoon above can be viewed in full size here, and a full collection of KluddNiklas’ works for Kinamedia can be seen via this link.

Macron encourages Europe to abandon Taiwan” is the most read article on Kinamedia this year.

It was mentioned as reference in the Swedish parliament earlier this month when parliamentarian Markus Welin asked Foreign Minister Tobias Billström if he will take any actions to clarify that Emmanuel Macron was not speaking for all of Europe when in China.
