Satire: Fruit of knowledge under lockdown in China

One of many breathtaking Covid incidents in China as of late is the lockdown of Apple supplier Foxconn’s factory in Zhengzhou, Henan province. After cases were observed inside the plant, which employs some 200,000 people, thousands of workers were locked up inside it and expected to carry on the production in a so-called ”closed loop” system barring them from leaving or anyone else from entering the facilities.

In this week’s satire here on Kinamedia, Niklas ”@Kludd-Niklas” Eriksson portrays the Chinese pandemic workers known as ”big white” or ”white guards” bricking up the fruit of knowledge, indifferently sealing the employees inside.

Indeed, episodes like this might have Apple reconsider its reliance on China based manufacturing. As New York Times among others recently reported, the situation at the world’s biggest electronics factory could mark the ”collapse of China’s image as a production powerhouse”.

All the more so, of course, since thousands of workers wrestled their way out of the forced quarantine. Their refusal to continue to work under increasingly dire circumstances are likely to create shortages in the deliveries of new iPhones just in time for the Christmas holiday shopping period.
