Satire: Zero Covid as China’s new ideology

Since Xi Jinping in February 2020 declared a ”people’s war” against the coronavirus, stopping the spread of Covid-19 has become something close to a new ideology in China, as arguing against zero tolerance for the virus is viewed as a challenge to the president himself.

The rallying around what is now called ”dynamic zero-Covid strategy” as a mean of political loyalty towards the top is the theme for this week’s cartoon by Niklas ”Kludd-Niklas” Eriksson here on Kinamedia.

Anyone looking for signs that the zero Covid strategy might end soon better listen to the boss himself. As late as last week, during a symbolic visit to Wuhan, Xi Jinping declared zero Covid as the most “economic and effective” policy for China and hinting it as proof of the superiority of the Chinese political system.

Officials who want to be on good terms with China’s most powerful leader since Mao Zedong, got few other options than saluting the strategy.
